Potential Benefits of Peptides
Peptides are short chains of amino acids that make up the building blocks of amino acids. Peptides can be used mimic the function of proteins and hormones providing the body with positive effect and avoiding adverse effects. There are many functions that peptides can serve. Some are as follows;
- Boosting metabolism
- Weight loss
- Improved cognitive function
- Improved sleep hygiene
- Sexual health
- Reduction of ageing
Peptide Reconstitution
Peptides are supplied in a lyophilized form. This is where the peptide is freeze dried, removing all water during the freezing process. This leaves behind a powder residue which can either appear fluffy or granular depending the lyophilization technique adopted.
Lyophilized peptides must be dissolved in a solvent prior to use. There is no universally recognised solvent that can be used for every type of peptide. The type of solvent is dictated by the stability and compatibility of the specific solvent with bioassays. Bacteriostatic water is most often used for this purpose although it cannot dissolve every type of peptide and sometimes other organic solvents are needed.
Example using Bacteriostatic water – 2mg of peptide
- Remove plastic cap from bacteriostatic water vial so reveal rubber top.
- Swab rubber top with alcohol wipe and wait 1 minute to dry.
- Aspirate 2ml of water from the vial.
- Inject 2ml of water into the peptide vial slowly. (Do NOT shake)
- Gently swirl vial until the peptides is fully dissolved.
